Mt. Rushmore Trip - Part 1

We left Lehi around 10:00 a.m.

This is how London and Marg rode practically the whole way. Each had a DVD player and to see the screen, they covered their heads with a blanket to keep the sun out. ha!

 


 
This is pretty much what the whole trip looked like. All 1,500 miles!



We decided we would make it to Casper and then see how we were doing and decide then just exactly which way we would continue on to Mt. Rushmore.

All was well in Casper, so we decided to take the longer route through Gillette, WY, so we could also see Devil's Tower. That famous landmark from the creepy movie Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

 

We started calling hotels in Gillete and soon found out that the National High School Rodeo Competition was being held there and rooms were scarce. Who knew?

Heavenly Father blessed us, though, with a great room - maybe the last one in the whole town - and at half price. ONLY $139.00. Yep. The whole town jacked up all their prices for the rodeo.

We, however, were just glad to have a place to rest our heads and the kids had fun at the water park adjacent to the hotel.


Devil's Tower really was pretty awesome. It's just there all by itself out in the middle of nowhere.
